Journey
Joshua Baraka is a Ugandan singer, songwriter, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose work spans Afrobeats, Afro-pop, R&B, Amapiano, and dancehall. Born in Kawempe, Kampala, to a Ugandan mother and Kenyan father, he developed his musical foundation in church, where his mother served as a worship leader. He learned to play the piano, guitar, and drums before studying at Kitante Primary School, Makerere College School, and Mengo Senior School. Although he initially considered careers in nursing and architecture, he chose to pursue music after producing songs while still in school.
Baraka launched his recording career with the EP "Baby Steps" in 2021, released through Ssese Nation/Lobst4r, introducing his songwriting and production abilities. His breakthrough came in 2023 with "Nana," which became one of East Africa's most successful songs and expanded his audience through collaborations and remixes featuring King Promise, Joeboy, and Bien. He followed with the EP "Growing Pains" and its deluxe edition, which included "Alone" featuring Nkosazana Daughter. His catalogue has since grown with releases including "Recess" (2024) and "Juvie" (2025), alongside singles such as "Wrong Places," "Lonely," "Dalilah," "Digii IV," and "Touch Me."
Joshua Baraka writes and produces much of his own material, combining contemporary African styles with live instrumentation and melodic songwriting. His collaborations extend across the continent, including recordings with Simi, Joeboy, Bien, King Promise, Magixx, Yaw Tog, Nkosazana Daughter, Krizbeatz, FAVE, and Smallgod. His music has established a growing presence across streaming platforms and live venues throughout Africa and internationally.
In 2024, Baraka was selected for 'Spotify RADAR Africa,' recognizing his growing influence within the continent's emerging music landscape. In 2026, he joined LVRN Records, operating under the Love Renaissance/HGA imprint, a move that signaled a new phase in his professional reach and resources. He has since expanded his international profile through headline performances, festival appearances, and touring across Africa, Europe, Australia, and North America. As both a recording artist and producer, Joshua Baraka continues to build a catalogue that has positioned him among the leading voices of Uganda's new generation of contemporary musicians.
